Vehement Vulgarity and Vomityness

One of the most important effects envisioned by the planners of the attacks of 9/11/01 was to put as many people as possible in a state of fear. I would say that it worked quite well. I was at work that day and caught a short glimpse on tv of the second plane hitting the south tower. Later while still at work I heard on the radio of buildings coming down, the pentagon, Osama Bin Laden etc. etc. By the time I got home I was feeling a great deal of anxiety. I turned on the tv and sat down and my cat jumped up on my lap as he usually did. I remember feeling frustrated that they did not show me a replay of the buildings coming down right away. When they finally showed a replay and I saw the South tower begin to fall, something in my gut began to say “no”. In the following seconds, as the entire building kept falling toward the ground, that little bit of logic expressed as the word “no”, stretched out, as time seemed to slow down and I remember my entire being felt sick and weak and in that state all I could do was let that word out of my mouth which became “noooooooooooooo” My cat was a 6 month old kitten at the time and I remember him looking up at me and staring at me for a while as tears started to roll down my face. It seemed like he was trying to make me feel better. As though he was saying “don’t worry, it’ll be alright”.
In the following months I taught my cat to fetch. This should have been my first clue that he was far more intelligent than me.
Five years later I was on the internet and saw a photo of one of the core supports at the wtc site that had obviously been cut. So began my process of “waking up”. It was quite some time before I could look my cat in the eye again. If you’ve ever had a cat you know how cocky they can be.

So yes, it does suck to be out smarted by a cat. Luckily for me however he lived long enough for me to thank him for what he did in that moment. If he had not done that I may have given in to fear to such a degree that I may never have figured out who was actually responsible for those attacks. I now understand that those same clever people know more about human psychology, fears and weaknesses than most humans will ever know during their time on earth.  The following are my observations concerning the wtc memory-all currently being constructed at the site commonly known as “ground zero”.

The two fountains are the exact same size and shape of two biggest buildings. This has a visual resonance with the events of 9/11/01 because the entire world was watching those two buildings and feeling fear at the same time. The architects call this theme “reflecting absence”.

The single most noticeable and visible thing about the fountains will be water falling down all four sides of each fountain. This water will be traveling at the speed that gravity pulls things downward. Commonly known as free fall speed. This has a visual resonance with the most terrifying moments of that day. The “collapses” of the twin towers.

As of this writing it appears to me that the water will be impacting the bottom corners of the fountains rather harshly. I see no radius being constructed at the bottom that would help the water to turn gently and gracefully. If I am seeing this correctly there will certainly be an inward spray of water as it hits the bottom. When you picture this in a three dimensionally inverted way, which your subconscious mind is always doing, the inward spray of the water equates to the outward spray of dust, debris and human remains. This creates a live action, constantly running resonance with the most deadly and terrifying moments of 9/11/01. The “collapses” of the twin towers. All of this will be going on in the subconscious mind of the visitor or viewer simply by looking at these big vulgar holes in the ground.

The designer of this memory-all claims that “thousands and thousands of gallons per minute” will be constantly cycling through the fountains. I have never been to New York but I hear that it can get quite cold there. During the cold months of the year when the air is quite dry, will not all of this water create steam? If so, there will frequently be steam rising from the fountains. This has a visual resonance with the days and weeks following 9/11/01 when we all saw smoke rising from the site. A time when we all wondered if there were people alive under there and tried to imagine what they might be going through.

New york’s newest, biggest and scariest tourist attraction has still more features for its visitors. For those brave souls with a strong stomach there is an underground area. This area is complete with a museum and the opportunity to feel what it might have been like to be in the buildings as they came down. No tourist attraction would be complete without a thrill ride right?

Thousands and thousands of gallons of water per minute. The big vulgar holes in the ground appear to be at least thirty feet deep. Little or nothing at the bottom to lessen the impact of the water. I wonder what that would sound like in an enclosed space? A low vibration? A rumbling sound? A roaring sound? Most of the videos I have seen of the “collapses” of the twin towers that contain audio sound like a rumbling or roaring sound.

According to architectural images I have seen of the underground area it appears that visitors will have the opportunity to walk right up to the back side of one or more of the waterfalls. It seems that this will be much like large aquariums with only glass separating the visitor from the water. It looks like the visitor will be standing just slightly above the point where the water impacts and sprays inward/outward. Why were the “collapses” of the towers so terrifying? I wondered in those moments what it must have been like for the people in the towers. I think most viewers wondered the same thing. This is what made the “collapses” so horrifying for everyone. Simple human compassion and empathy. Being in an enclosed space and hearing the roar of the water and feeling the vibration in the floor is meant as a subliminal resonance with our imaginings of being inside the buildings as they “collapsed”. The water falling down into the big vulgar hole is also meant as a subliminal resonance with our imaginings of being trapped down there under the street, suffering, as fire trucks pump thousands and thousands of gallons of water down from overhead. The water falling down directly in front of your face is also reminiscent of tears. The vertical placement of the visitor so near to the water spray at the bottom where the roar is also produced is resonant with the moment that the “collapse” killed the victims. You may be forgiven if you have a vomity feeling in your stomach.
